poem \"Immunity\"

Immunity --03.22.04 Monday
easily I am amazed;
                                all the horror, terror, violence has us dazed.
no longer does a be-heading turn stomachs;
no longer does a mutilated body cause unease;
we are immune to this violence--
                                to this sickening disease.
                welcomed are the blood-filled scenes;
                welcomed are the toe-curling war deaths/
                welcomed are our own terror-filled footage.
we have become immune to our own terrorist deeds.
sadly I wonder what will become,
when one day we can't even evoke a single groan,
because violence will be an everyday occurence;
we will be living in red-filled days of gore.
                and thus they wonder why we are angered,
                whenever the screams are readily ignored.
                and then they get angry,
                whenever our kids bust out the guns.
we all learn from example-- we aren't immune to death.
