A New Day --02.14.02 Thursday--
Clouds covered the blue;
Raindrops threatened the skies;
A girl watched the world around her,
Sadness overflowed in her eyes.
Happiness and joy abounded;
People laughed and shouted;
But one single girl looked out on them,
And saw only sadness around her.
No color covered her world;
Only gray and white;
She never knew such happiness,
But wished one day she might.
A flicker in her gray world;
Lead her eyes to a red spot;
Upon a hill she found a rose,
That showed for her they hadn't forgot.
Like a wild fire it spread;
Leaving behind colors of yellow, blue, and red;
Picking up the rose she knew,
Never again would her heart be blue.
She looked again at the people laughing;
The sound was music to her ears;
She felt her heart warm at the sound,
And unleashed a flood of joyous tears.
The sun broke out from the clouds;
The barrier had been broken;
Its rays touched all of her gray world,
And showed the true colors had not been forgotten.
She smelled the rose-- all sweet and nice;
And felt a tap on her shoulder's right;
She turned around to find some people,
All friendly, and happy faces bright.
They welcomed her with open arms;
As the sun shined brightly leading the way;
She was swept away with no thoughts of harm,
For it was the beginning of a new day.
